In my role with The Story Collider, I coach scientists, performers, and everyone in between to tell true, personal stories about science at our live storytelling shows in Los Angeles. (Think stand-up comedy, but with personal narratives that run the gamut from hilariously absurd to heartbreakingly poignant.) For more on the educational value of stories in science, check out this study.

The Story Collider hosts online story slams, online educational programming, and in-person shows in cities around the world.

Some of the tellers I’ve worked with:

Grad student Nina Christie’s preconceived notions of the Skid Row needle exchange get turned on their head when she begins volunteering there.

Mike Lambert seeks a friend’s help to pick out new glasses, but his secret body dysmorphia threatens to undo him.

Engineer Joey Jefferson doesn’t feel like he belongs in science as a Black bisexual man.

As Jaclyn Siegel researches eating disorders, she struggles with her own.

After years of a chronic disorder make Becky Feldman feel like she’ll be single forever, she finds acceptance from an unusual source.

When Rob Ulrich leaves their small town to study science, they keep waiting to feel like they belong somewhere.
